Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK) Nigeria and CIM Programme

The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK) Nigeria at Lagos is closely connected to the 80 Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) of Germany. Together they support German and Nigerian companies in extending their business interests and promoting bilateral ties. More at the AHK website.

The support of CIM to AHK links activities of the German private sector in Nigeria more closely with Germany’s development policies. CIM empowers AHK through an international expert heading the Energy and Environment Desk and advising local and German companies on partnership opportunities. CIM’s support also enables hosting the Energy Platform of Nigeria whose secretariat is headed by the international expert.

Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP)

The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) implements the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) on behalf of the European Union and the German government with funding of EUR 24.5 million. NESP improves the conditions for investments in renewable energy, rural electrification and energy efficiency.

NESP is a technical assistance programme, supporting federal institutions with advisory services on policy and regulatory frameworks, state governments and DISCOs on electrification planning and partners with communities and the private sector on pilot projects. The programme also empowers training institutions to provide professionals with qualifications in renewable energy and energy efficiency relevant to the industry today. Main partners include FMoP, FMLHUD, NERC, NBET, NAPTIN and SON at federal level and institutions in the partner states Sokoto, Niger, Plateau, Ogun and Cross River.

Nigeria Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (REEEP)

The Nigeria Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (REEEP), provides technical assistance in the development and financing of renewable energy and energy efficiency markets in Nigeria. With the active work of REEEP, Nigerians will experience increased access to affordable clean energy, jobs, and economic growth.

REEEP’s 4-pronged method enables SME’s in the clean energy sector and other sectors to access financing; collaborates with financial institutions to increase lending to RE/EE sectors; increases technical capacity of individuals for the maintenance of clean energy systems; and supports the Nigerian government to implement and execute legislation for the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the country. REEEP is funded by USAID and implemented by Winrock International. More at the Winrock International website.
